What Mental Health Means to me: Princi

Updated: Nov 27, 2024

According to the world health organisation, WHO, mental health is a state of well-being that

allows people to realise their abilities, cope with life's stresses and contribute to their community.

WHO also states that mental health is a basic human right and that it is essential for personal, community and socioeconomic development.

Every human on this planet has a unique definition of what mental health means to them. Some might say that it is how well our mind is working and coping up with life, some might say how well we are able to concentrate defines our mental health and some might say that mental health is affected by the challenges that we face in our lives. To a great extent are these opinions and viewpoints true.

According to me, mental health is the ability of oneself to gain control over their actions. A lot of times in our lives we behave miserably in certain situations, we are unaware about what we do and what we say. Gaining consciousness over our speech and actions gives us a huge amount of mental stability. Once we are fully aware about what we are doing gives us the power to make good out of our life. Being conscious about our life, even in difficult times gives us strength, both emotional and mental. We become able to take our life decisions, keeping in mind the future consequences.

Our mental health is affected by various factors in our lives. For students it is mainly academic stress, peer pressure, workload and what not. In this early stage of life, students should know about how to stay healthy mentally. Mental well-being not only affects the child's mind but also their physical health also. Student's physical and mental health go hand in hand. We, the youth of India, should take an initiative ourselves to maintain our mental well-being and let's begin this by keeping ourselves mentally healthy first.
