Dance Therapy



In November 2023, I stumbled into the world of dance, not with any plan or expectation, but

simply as a way to unwind. I wasn’t looking for therapy or anything life-changing; I was just

seeking a moment to release stress. But as I moved, letting go of my inhibitions, I discovered an unexpected sense of relief and freedom. This simple act of moving with music in my room at odd hours, especially those late-night sessions around 2 a.m., quickly grew into something much deeper. By 2024, these unstructured, personal dance sessions became my sanctuary, a way to clear my mind and reconnect with myself.

Dance therapy isn’t a strict, choreographed practice, it’s just moving to your own rhythm, letting your body and emotions guide you. In those early days, I realized how movement allowed me to express what I couldn’t say in words, a way of processing emotions that felt more natural and freeing than talking through them. I’d had no idea how much I needed it. The more I danced, the more grounded and resilient I felt, like each session was clearing space in my mind and heart.

Research backs up this experience, showing that dance therapy can reduce anxiety, boost

mood, and deepen self-awareness. Moving releases endorphins, helping the brain shift out of stress mode, and creates a natural “flow” that enhances mindfulness. For me, those benefits were clear every time I finished a session. It was like pressing a reset button, leaving behind whatever worries or anxieties I’d brought into the room.

By mid-2024, dance therapy became my go-to. Whether I was celebrating, stressed, or just

needed a break, a quick dance session was there to center me. It wasn’t about perfection or

skill; it was simply about feeling. I’d encourage anyone, dancer or not, to give it a try. Dance has become my most reliable, expressive form of self-care, one I know I’ll carry with me for life.
